A lot has been written about exposing children to math and science at an early age. There are also a lot of folks who advocate learning computer programing at an early age. There are also thousands of Apps available to help kids with reading, writing, and learning math.

However, I was looking for something simple, fun, adaptable, and would teach a skill that my two kids could use well into the future – I was looking for the lego block of educational games.

As a heavy user of Excel and spreadsheets at work, I felt that it might be interesting to see if I could create basic excel spreadsheets that my 5 year old and 3 year old could play with – get them to learn some basic math and english, while also familiarizing them with how Excel works.

My son found this to be an awesome idea and has really taken well to it. seeing his enthusiasm for it, I thought I would start sharing online the spreadsheets that I create and see if there are others out there who find this form of learning to have value.

This is an evolving experiment, and I look forward to hearing and learning about ways to make the idea of using spreadsheets to educate kids more popular, fun and effective.
